Working together and having good communication helps to develop a strong bond and trust between you and your dog.
How can you both find a way to communicate with each together when you both speak two different languages?
Dogs have a way of knowing how we feel by observing our body language. You think thy're just sitting quietly near you, but in actuality, they're studying you.
Putting the word "training" aside, lets not "train" your dog, lets start "communicating" with your dog. But how can we do this?
In the beginning, you will find that this feels like a social experiment.
Start observing your dog and find out what makes his tail wag. Find out the things he doesn't like. Look at his reactions to smells, flavors, toys, running, games, etc. Find his interests.
Does he like the leash? Does he come to you when you call him? If not, what is distracting him from coming to you?
The observation.
Keep in mind, while you're observing him, he's observing you. He's observing how patient you are, what makes you laugh, what makes you upset, he listens to the tone in your voice, and he's watching how you carry yourself.
Your Determination.
In the end of your social experiment, you will begin to acquire a list of things that you may feel your dog needs to work on. Keep in mind, if you feel that you are becoming impatient when you're trying to correct a behavior,...you may need to work on yourself too, and ask yourself why is this making you upset?
If your dog feels that you're upset, it may put him in a different mind set, such as get nervous and hide, or lose trust in you. The best thing to do is learn to communicate with each other in a calm way.
Dog communication doesn't happen quickly. Learning a new language and social skills between canine and human may take awhile to grasp. Keep in mind that you are and your dog are working together towards a goal to make a great team, and depend on each other for companionship.
